A Fourth Petrarchan Sonnet for Advent with the Shepherds

This is a brand new one.

Winter’s Turn

The dawn is not so distant when this ball
Of blue begins the turn from out to in.
It’s been so long since day and night were twins
That night can seem to overtake it all;
Providing more than leaves to call the fall.
And to a point, the darkness seems to win
The time of year conspiring well with sin
To breed despair in all who fall in thrall.
But there were some awake that night who knew
The dark enough to see the dim as bright.
As was their way, they kept their watch and met
The blazing wings that turned the frost to dew.
The Earth and all within it, hark! This Light
That wakes your wintry world will never set.
